Budva – 21 to 22 June– Judge Maria Grazia Benedetti, EURoL II Deputy Team Leader attended the 13th International Conference of the Balkan and Euro – Mediterranean Network of Judicial Councils (BEMNCJ) that was held in Budva on 21-22 June 2018.
The Judicial Council of Montenegro was the organiser and the host of this year’s gathering of members of this judicial network.
The main topics of the Conference were: Role of judicial and prosecutorial councils, judges and prosecutors in the fight against terrorism – Use of social networks by judges and prosecutors; and Relationship between court councils and other state institutions.
In the introductory part of the Conference, the participants were welcomed and addressed by the President of the Judicial Council of Montenegro, PhD Mladen Vukčević, the President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, Vesna Medenica, the Director of the Directorate for Justice in the Ministry of Justice, Marijana Laković Drasković and Gjin Gjoni (President of BEMNCJ).
The event has been evaluated as extremely important from the aspect of improving the rule of law, independence and accountability of judges and prosecutors and the overall reform of the judiciary, not only in Montenegro but also in the other member states of the BEMNCJ.
